A County Preserve Unknown to Most People

Local residents most-likely know about this delight, but few others do. If you find yourself east of Port Orchard or are heading to Manchester State Park, stop by for a short enjoyable walk.

Like other preserves, you will find little signage, and no facilities, but plenty of nature.

Wynn-Jones Preserve Trail Maps

The trail map below shows the Wynn-Jones Preserve County Park and its trails on the tip of the peninsula northeast of Port Orchard.

Introduction

Driving to or from Manchester State Park east of Port Orchard, you may have seen a small roadside Wynn-Jones Preserve sign, but no other evidence that it exists. The primary trailhead is on Wynn-Jones Rd E. just after turning off of Beach Dr E. The only parking option is immediately on the right before the mailboxes in a small turn-out. There is only room for a few cars, but you will rarely find another vehicle parked there.

Technically you can enter from Watauga Beach Dr. but the parking situation is not optimal. Although not technically a loop, you can start at the trailhead adjacent to the small parking area, and follow the trail, optionally taking the spur to Watauga Beach Dr. Continue the loop west back towards the unpaved Wynn-Jones Rd. just north of the parking area and walk the very short distance along the road to the starting point.

The trails are quite nice and seem longer than the approximately 4/5-mile length. Take it slow and notice all the subtleties that make this such a great spot.

With no beach access here, you can travel a short distance south on Beach Dr. to Manchester State Park (also featured on this site) to get you beach fix and enjoy its other amenities as well. On a sunny day you will not be alone at Manchester, but Wynn-Jones will probably be all yours.

For a longer walk, you can follow Wynn-Jones Rd or Watauga Beach Dr.
